Humanoid Civilization

A small society of learning agents lives whole lives in one town. They farm three kinds of food and work the warehouse. They trade, raise families, gossip, steal and police each other. Nothing is automatic: every gift, sale, theft, arrest and partnership is someone's choice. Their only reward is how happy their life is. Pick a training stage to watch what they have learned. How the society changed while they learned

Lives. A year is 60 steps. People are born, grow up, pair up, have children at home and die of old age or starvation. Children cannot work or trade and must be fed. Temperament (empathy, greed, boldness, charm) is inherited with mutation.

Food. Grain grows in planted fields, fruit on orchard trees, dairy from the herd in the pasture. Eating the same food again helps less, and going without one harms health, so everyone wants all three. Each person gets better at what they practise.

Trade and work. Crates carried from the warehouse to the dock earn coins from the outside world, more when others ship at the same time. Food changes hands only as a gift or as a sale at the seller's own price.

Trust. Everyone forms opinions of everyone else from how they are treated and what they see, and gossip spreads them. Anyone can shun someone and refuse to deal with them. Enlisted police can detain a thief they saw; two witnesses together can make a citizens' arrest, of police too. Nobody pays police unless they choose to.

Happiness is the only reward: fed, healthy and a varied diet; safe; friends, a partner and thriving children; being well regarded; useful work; and a little for savings. See DESIGN.md.
